Mother Loon and Baby. Photographed on Sawbill Lake in the BWCA. I spent a wonderful July afternoon on Sawbill Lake photographing this family of loons. Not seen in this photograph was the father of this pair. He was off fishing and would show up from time to time with fresh fish for the baby. He would sometimes switch with the mother loon and let her do some fishing for dinner. It was an amazing experience and I hope to do again soon. Photographed with a Nikon N90s film Camera and Fuji 400 negative film.
Sunset Over Beaver Bay. Photographed late in September 2008 as I was coming home from a two week photography trip to the north woods. I happened to see this scene forming as I drove south on Hwy 61. Now it was just a matter of finding a vista to photograph this emerging amazing scene. Photographed with a Kodak P880 digital camera. My first really great landscape photographed with a digital camera. I also photographed this scene with my Nikon film camera, but I think the squarish format of this digital camera suits this scene best. I still prefer film for it other advantages. Prints of the image are available up to 30x40 ins or larger, if you are willing to pay a little more! Michael Maltese
